Rensselaer Central boys – Departing Coach Mark McFarland
(Updated 7/25) – Can now confirm Coach Mark McFarland has accepted boys job at Madison. Good Varsity Club member reports Rensselaer Central is a decent job, and is an all-around pretty good job this late in the summer as school is beginning. Rensselaer is returning a Top 100 participant in Jaylen Gilbert, 6'5 wing, NAIA college interest. He averaged 17 points per game and 5 rebounds. The other varsity returner is Jerrett Nagel, 5'10 point guard, he is a Junior now. Varsity Clubber reports he does a great job of handling the ball and scoring on drives. Those 2 started every game and Jaylen will be a 3 year starter this year. They have a decent Junior class and Sophomore class looks promising. The Freshmen class there may be 1 varsity player when it is all said and done. The middle school is going to look really good this year. The top players from each class are very hard working, and put the time in. Report goes on to state that players this summer worked out 4 days a week and are ready for the year. The administration is great to work for at Rensselaer and very supportive of coaches. The numbers are low for a 3A school. The administration is more of a football, wrestling, baseball administration. Football is really pushed at this school. There is not much of a push toward basketball. However, administration and dads are very willing to let Coach run the program and help when needed. The best thing about the job right now, there are a lot of dads in each grade level that are willing to help with the youth program. The youth program has been setup and is in place.
