Avon girls – Interim Coach Jacob DeWilde
(Updated 2/28) – All indications are that interim Coach Jacob DeWilde spot will be posted shortly. The undermanned Orioles went 8-15 during his one season at the helm. Avon will then find themselves in the position of hiring their fourth coach in four years. Also worth noting the Orioles have not fielded a winning team during the last nine seasons. Of their 8 wins this go round, only 3 came against similar 4A schools. The schedule is stocked with nice docket of smaller schools for a new coach to get things on the winning track, but offense has been the struggle during this down period, and next year’s group will be without nearly half of their 52 ppg due to graduation losses. Good Varsity Club member does report last year’s leading scorer 5-8 sr-2-b forward Kelsi Dishman should return with her 10 ppg. Another bright spot for new leader comes from three players that logged significant varsity minutes last years as frosh. Post Haley Nichols is arguably the best of the trio with 9 ppg and 5 boards. Varsity Club member reports turnovers were a killer when the younger backcourt had to handle, and that will likely be a continued challenge next season against teams that will look to pressure the Orioles again. Elementary and HS English positions currently open, but more very possible closer to end of year.
