LaPorte boys - Departing Coach Kyle Benge
LaPORTE, Ind. -- (Updated 3/25) Coach Benge will not be back for the Slicers after four seasons there. Last year LaPorte won just five games with an undermanned roster. Good Varsity Club member familiar with situation says that everything involving LaPorte basketball has to start with the Dunland Conference. Bottom line is this. The Dunland is murder for the Slicers, and that is not likely to change for some time. DAC (Michigan City, Valpo, Lake Central, Chesterton, Merrillville, and Portage) Several senior graduate, but Varsity Club report points to underclassmen as the contributors for next season. Fellow jrs-2-b Kye Kirkham and RJ Anglin both 6-2 guards as well as 6-4 Grant Ott-Large are three letter winners that each led the team throughout the season. JV went 13-9 last season. Report also indicates likely internal interest from assistants currently on staff, but none confirmed yet. Outside candidates can look at current teaching openings: MS Math, MS Industrial Tech, HS English, HS Sped, HS Music, MS PE/Health
