Austin boys – Departing Coach Joe Sibbit
(Updated 4/13) – Now official that Coach Joe Sibbit will not be returning next year after school board votes to not renew contract. Coach Sibbit has been at Austin for five seasons, going 45-72 during that span. Good Varsity Club member reports special meeting was called in large part due to a vocal group of parents and grandparents unhappy with current Austin Coach. The special session included just two items – a brief motion extended the coaching contract of girls coach Jared Petersen and gave Supt. Anderson permission to post the boys job. Local paper also made mention of vocal grandparents that reportedly were instrumental in pressuring admin/board into not renewing. Even going so far as to attend the board’s last regularly-scheduled business meeting to urge the board to hire a new boys coach. Interesting in that might the first time that particular demographic has been identified. Would be curious to know more about the grandparents of Austin.. Last year’s Eagles were 9-15 and lose five seniors. However, only two were statistical contributors and Varsity Clubber indicates Austin will return about 30 points of offense and most ball handling. Promising Jr-2-b class reported, but as one might expect, downtown coach’s association accompany them. Coach Sibbit is a middle school teacher in Austin, and no indication he will lose his teaching gig. No teaching positions at this time.
