Hammond Gavit boys – (Updated 8/10) Now official that veteran Coach Mark Barnhizer has resigned to accept a position out of state. Gavit was 4-19 last year during his only season there. Coach has put together 380+ winds during a 31 year career. NWI Times reports Pending school-board approval, Doug Friend will be the Gladiators new athletic director, and he'll be in charge of finding Barnhizer's replacement. High school PE job now listed for Gavit. Good Varsity Club member reports that Gladiators should return four starters, two started multiple games as varsity freshmen. Height will be an issue. Nobody wearing purple will top out above 6-2 barring a transfer. Still, a .500 record is a decent goal especially given current schedule.
