Covington boys - (Updated 4/16) Coach Kent Chezem leaves for Loogootee but leaves a cupboard that is stocked full of talent. Coach has over 200 wins in his 21 year career. The Trojans lose 5 starters to graduation but will most certainly be in "reload mode" rather than "rebuild mode." Five lettermen return
Top returners include current soph. Griffin Spring (6'4" and the younger brother of all-stater Chandler Spring) is a two year varsity player on teams that went 40-4 the past 2 seasons. Halen Noble is 6'1" junior sharp shooter who also logged valuable playing time the past two years. Ryan Fletcher (6'7" junior), Luke Cooper (6' soph and brother of graduating Bryce Cooper), and Ollie Pettit (6'1" soph PG) all played significant roles this past season. The JV finished 18-4 and has some capable players ready to make the jump to varsity ball. The best being Aiden Tanner who is an athletic wing who had a solid freshman campaign on the JV this year. The freshmen finished 7-3 while playing without their 2 best players who played JV ball (Tanner and 6'4" Chandler Rowe). The 8th grade went 39-3 in 3 years of middle school ball. They lose coach Chezem's son who will be attending Loogootee, but there is quite of bit of talent left in this class. The 7th grade has had a similar record to the 8th grade and they have a dynamite guard playing in that class. The feeder system is very strong down thru the 3rd grade, so the future is bright for the Trojans. Looks like this will be paired with a social studies job.
