Elkhart Central boys – Coach Randy DeShone departs to take an asst principal job at St. Joe. Coach led the Blue Blazers for two seasons going 5-17 and most recently 16-8. With this hire, EC’s will have its 4th coach in nine years. Good Varsity Club member reports four starters depart, but all-area Cornell Conner is set to return. So is Adonis Brown, reportedly a very solid 6th man last year. As worthy of mention is the continued discussion regarding what is considered the inevitable consolidation of Elkhart Central and Elkhart Memorial. No time line and no decision yet, but looks like a collision course for sure. This would obviously eliminate one of the coaching jobs, but could make for a much stronger pool of players for the coach that survives. One Varsity Clubber quipped that it might put Elkhart Central in the same 9A class as Penn. One name mentioned with early speculation is Ryan Gingerich.
