Avon girls - (Updated 3/11) Can now confirm Coach David Cupp has resigned at Avon. Cupp's four year record at Avon was 17-70. The Orioles lose three seniors to the diploma, but only about 8 ppg depart with them. Avon struggled to score points last year, and offense will likely continue to be a challenge for new coach. Good Varsity Club member reports three players return that averaged about 6 ppg each, but finding one to consistently score in double digits could be daunting. Jr-2-b PG Camille Vann was all-conference & all-county, but numbers are nowhere near overwhelming. Fellow Jr-2-b Leah Bode logged varsity minutes and at 6-1 should provide an inside presence, but again, statistics pretty anemic. 5-9 jr-2-b forward/center Katrinia Hopkins is probably the most consistent of the returners numbers-wise. She also brings 4 rpg with her. However, 6 and 4 are not the type of numbers you want to build around, and one Varsity Clubber reports she spent some time splitting time with JV. What also returns is a roster of players with a pension for turning the ball over. Avon stat buff emails that the squad averaged over 20 turnovers a game while managing only 6 assists per contest. The bulk of that loveliness is also expected to return. To make matters even a little more dark, conference and Sectional line-ups are flat-out murder. In addition Avon has done them selves no favors by scheduling a difficult non-conference docket as well. On the bright side teaching areas within the system look to be available in a host of areas.
