Clinton Central boys - (Updated 3/24) Some frequent flyers to the Rumor Mill in Clinton Central jobs. Coach Scott Leighty will not be returning after three seasons (6-63.) Last year's talent-challenges roster struggled to an 0-24 mark losing by an average of over 20 ppg. It's been nine seasons since the Bulldogs have cracked double digit wins. However, just maybe this isn't as bad as it seems. Truly new coach is starting at ground zero. With no disrespect to the coaches that have recently led the Bulldogs, surely even a little burp of talent coming through the pipeline would help the bottom line. That may actually be the reality. Last year's leading scorer will be back in 6-5 Jr-2-b G Keenan Orr averaged 10 ppg and 5 rpg, and had a couple of a few very solid games. Hopefully with some maturity, there will be less inconsistency as he also had some real clunkers. 6-1 Sr-2-b F Taylor Turner logged considerable varsity time and also had a handful of quality outings. Some other decent size should return a couple of 6-4 post players. One final bit of positive news, 14 of the 2A Bulldog opponents are of the 1A variety. Now the other reality. Six seniors leave and while that may be considered a positive for an 0-24 team, the downside is that many of those players logged varsity minutes. A considerable portion of next year's roster will be seeing the varsity floor for the first time. It's also Clinton Central, a former B.E.S.T. award winner. Most accounts indicate much of that is history. Remains to be seen.
Clinton Central girls - (Updated 3/24) CC girls is officially listed as open. Coach Alicia Burrus, 4-19 will not be returning after one season with the Lady Bulldogs. Good Varsity Club Member reports only one contributing senior graduates, however, she led the team in scoring at just over 16 ppg. Four underclassmen filled out the rest of the varsity time, but only one, 5-8 JR-2-b post Taylor Morris was impactful in the stat column. Varsity Clubber reports that this could get ugly in terms of the win column. Report goes on to state that schedule has been configured for program growth, but last year's squad were -25 ppg. With the loss their leading scorer and best athlete, things will be a challenge.
