Anderson boys – Coach Ryan Smith has resigned after one year (3-20) at Anderson. The Indians never quite had the roster they were supposed to field. Two high profile transfers prior to the season, three players suspended for portions of the campaign, and leading scorer missed about a month of the season due to a broken wrist. AHS lost their final 14 games as the season simply went into a tail spin. A lot has been made of the flight from Anderson to neighboring suburbs schools. That is a real issue, however, the Indians still have the potential to field a very solid team. Varsity Clubber goes on to state that at this point the athletic leaders in the building are not of the character a coach would hope for. But that it’s not a lifetime sentence. One very interesting name being mentioned is Phil Washington. He was re-assigned away from Attucks mid-season. Rumors flew pointing to two Anderson to Attucks transfers (mentioned above.) Another Varsity Club member reports some internal interest, but also indicates that admin would like to hire a proven commodity to help Anderson attempt to climb to its once lofty basketball heights again. Still another Varsity Club member reports that there were numerous infractions on the part of what he termed ‘idiot teens.’ Allegedly admin was more interested in keeping peace with parents than imposing justifiable punishments. The results speak for themselves. Now was a lesson learned by admin, or should we expect more of the same the next time something goes down?
