Charlestown boys - Departing Coach Sean Smith

CHARLESTOWN, Ind. -- (Updated 4/13) Now confirmed that Coach Smith has resigned the Pirates job after two years there. Most recently the Pirates went 8-12. Good Varsity Club member reports you know you are in trouble when you graduate more seniors (9) than you have wins (8.) Report continues with the third part of this nightmare trifecta of numbers. Charlestown returns less points (about 7) than their win total last year as well. In a word: Oyhh. Only two letter winners expected back for accounting for those seven big ppg. 6-4 sr-2-b post Chase Benner (5) and 6-1 jr-2-b guard Jake Helton (2.) That’s it. Beyond that there are some average JV players, but zero with varsity experience. Some pretty decent talent reported in middle school groups, but probably lean seasons in the meantime. Charlestown has scheduled to assist in the overall W/L column which will reportedly be very much needed, and by all accounts facilities are top notch. Always lots of rumors flying about Mid-Southern Conference movements, but for now at least: Silver Creek, Scottsburg, Austin, Brownstown, North Harrison, Clarksville, North Harrison, Eastern, and Corydon. 3A Sectional 30 no cakewalk either to say the least: Silver Creek, Scottsburg, Salem, North Harrison, Corydon, Madison. Report indicates several teaching openings anticipated, but none beyond Eled sped official right now.
