Benton Central boys - Departing Coach Ryne Smith
(Updated 4/4) -- Varsity Club member reports it’s official now at Benton Central. Coach Ryne Smith has reportedly resigned as teacher and coach effective today. Varsity Clubber reports he is heading to Miami Ohio to be an assistant for Jack Owens. As of now Benton has social studies, Spanish and media specialist openings. Could be a couple lean years for the Bison as they are very young and inexperienced. Varsity Club report goes on to state BC could definitely benefit from a long term coach (7 coaches in the last 15 years) who wants to stay and build the program starting with the younger grades. Varsity Clubber insists a weight program is a must, as BC is currently very, very weak physically. Bison lose both of their big kids and not much height coming. No signs of interest internally. Although talent will be thin for a while, Varsity Club member reports selling points include great facilities with the 4,000 seat arena gym and Atha gym has two courts with tons of space, a great fan base and younger kids who love the game and hopefully will continue to work hard.
