Avon girls – Interim Coach Cortney Foreman
AVON, Ind. – (Updated 4/19) Coach Corie West was put on administrative leave mid-January, and since then Cortney Foreman has served as interim coach. This positon coming open was hardly in doubt, but several Varsity Club members pointed to Coach West wanting to wait until she was clear of any wrongdoing before submitting her resignation. Very understandable, but thus the delay in getting this one officially listed. Last year interim Coach Foreman struggled to a 3-win season with an undermanned squad and allegedly a viper’s nest of parents. Varsity Club reports indicate that that toxic mix will likely not allow Coach Foreman a fair shot. Entire staff very well may be out too over all this very negative publicity which all school boards love. A couple Varsity Clubbers express hope that new coach and staff will be given a chance, but the same elements are still in place to fester. Good Varsity Club member reports Avon should have three starters back. Best is arguably 5-5 sr-2-b guard Zaya Agabada (7ppg.) However, possible transfer situation there. Varsity Clubber reports turnovers routinely doubled that of assists in many games, and if Agabada goes, that may be the norm. JV team was decent. Freshman team reported as awful. One report went so far as to state the frosh girls allegedly lost their opening conference tourney game because they didn’t want to practice anymore.
