Attica boys - Departing Coach Derrick Milenkoff
ATTICA, Ind. -- (Updated 3/31) The Red Rambler job is now officially taking apps. Coach Milenkoff was really up against it the last few years to say the least. A simple case of good dudes, but just not enough talent resulted in a 2-22 mark last season. The two before that were 0-22 and 0-22. To say these are dark days in Attica would be an understatement. Several problems plagued recent teams. Ball handling, lack of athleticism & height, simply scoring 25-30 was a challenge in many outings. Varsity Clubber reports several nights the talent disparity was so bad, game planning for the coaching staff was all but impossible. Email points out that the Red Raiders struggled to average even 30PPG and were dropping games by an average of about the same point differential (-30PPG.) 1A Attica is a member of the Wabash River Conference: Riverton Parke, Park Heritage, South Vermillion, Fountain Central, Seeger, Covington, and North Vermillion. Varsity Clubber underlines this is a total build. Amazingly, Varsity Club report insists that the coaching staff were able to maintain a positive attitude amongst most team members. Three seniors depart, but, as one would expect, none were double digit scorers. However, reports all point to them being quality leaders, and genuinely good guys that helped keep a struggling ship headed in the right direction. Their loss will truly be impactful. Four srs-2-b are expected back and all are on paper to be three year varsity letter winners. Height tops out at a 6-1 forward. Also among them is a 5-8 guard that has maintained point duties for the last two seasons. The rest of prospective returners fall into 5-10 land. Some frosh did log varsity time last go round. Not much from a sub-500 JV. Solid numbers in feeder teams and camp turnouts. Teaching gigs stand at MS Science, HS Spanish, and Eled at this point.
