Lanesville girls – Departing Coach Kevin Smith
Lanesville, Ind. – (Updated 2/21) Can now confirm Coach Kevin Smith will not be returning after six seasons (46-92) with the Eagles. Lanesville is one of the more intriguing jobs open in that last year’s roster loses just one senior and just a bucket or two statistically. However, what really makes this intriguing is a very strong group that logged considerable time as varsity frosh last go round. Now less than 6 sophs-2-b played heavy varsity minutes including the Eagles 4 top scorers. Varsity Club member reports that while their 9-16 finish was impressive last year in the wake of playing so many underclassmen, what is really encouraging is that this record was in spite of a 0-5 start to the season. Lanesville Varsity Clubber also points out that this early schedule is front loaded with larger schools and has been a tough stretch for Eagle teams for a while. Varsity Club member indicates this group of sophs-2-b tore it up as middle schoolers and now return 46 points of offense and over 25 rebounds. Best of the youngsters is 5-10 Gracie Adams who went for 17 and 10 per contest. Southern Conference opponents include: pacesetter South Central-E, Borden, Henryville, New Wash, and Crothersville. No teaching positions at this time, but some possible. (Updated 2/22) Another Varsity Club member confirms the freshmen class is very good at Lanesville. Could be favorites in the sectional and conference over the next few years. Also adds Lanesville schools offer some of the lowest coaches pay in the state, but very nice community who loves sports, great AD in former Jeffersonville Boys Coach Mark Lambertus. (Updated 2/26) Good Varsity Club member reports incoming 9th graders are GOOD as well. Two varsity ready. Mercades Bierman off of the previous staff with interest and appears to be front runner. She played at Floyd Central on their semi-state team and has been on the staff at LHS for a number of years.
