ANDERSON, Ind. -- Madison Heights' legend Ray Tolbert was in the middle of a senior year wrapped in glory. His 25PPG and 13RPG helped power the Pirates to a state ranking and the attention of the entire state. However, even with the gaudy numbers Tolbert was putting up that winter, few could've predicted the other-worldly state record for blocks he was about to detonate on rival New Castle.

Sixteen times that December evening, the future Hall of Fame member turned New Castle field goal attempts into misses - and in some cases tattooing Spalding directly to Trojan foreheads. The 6-9 Anderson-area legend would help finish off their North Central Conference foe, 79-38 that night. Tolbert would also add 33 points and 18 rebounds for good measure.
1977 Indiana Mr. Basketball
Madison Heights would finish the season as Sectional runners-up to rival Anderson. Later that spring Tolbert would earn the prestigious 1977 Mr. Basketball title, and later still he would become an integral part of the 1980 Indiana University NCAA Championship team.
