Before people think I am bashing these things, I am not. I just have some questions about some of these. I have had a daughter play and players play in the Indiana Elite North/South basketball and softball games. I truly think they do a great job of organizing and running the events.
There are so many of these games and other organizations taking advantage of the kids. I put Hoosier basketball magazine in this group too. With the amount of money kids spend on ads and whatnot. Now before you jump me. I know you do not have to participate nor to you have to buy a magazine. I just see someone getting their pockets lined and nothing going back to the kids or schools of the kids. Just in the Girls North/South games there will be 32 teams with 15 on each team. Each player pays 150 to play. That is 72,000$. Players get a plaque that they have to pay $7 to get their name on it (sticker), a jersey, a tote bag, and a patch (maybe $30 worth of stuff). Now you take that and figure they make about that in the other sports; baseball, boys basketball, volleyball softball, soccer boys and girls, and a few others. This organization is making close to a million and that does not include sponsorship or every $10 fans pay to get in. They sell this to the parents saying there are going to be college coaches there. I have never seen more than 8 ever there and none over D2, mostly D3 and usually that is four the 3 and 4A games. I know they pay refs and pay for the facility three years ago they paid $2000.00 for a weekend when we hosted volleyball.
I just wish they would either lessen their fees or give something back to the schools the send kids. I also think 15 kids is too many. There were kids today that I was told by their coach only played in about 3 varsity games.
Again, I just wanted other thoughts. I think they do a good job, and kids do not have to participate. I just think to pay that much and play 20 minutes is a bit much.
